Breathless

For nine hundred and ninety nine nights
he lay breathless in the garden of delights,
watching her sweet breast rise and fall,
awaiting the caress that never came at all.

On the thousandth night as the peacock cried,
her pale hand arose to touch his side,
and his poor heart burst to leave him lying

breathless

in the garden of delights.

Mournful is the peacock’s cry.

  1. It’s rare for me to like a poem that rhymes these days, but I really love this! You have the right balance of fantasy and maturity that make it really wonderful for me – well done!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m always looking for really good poetry for an online literary magazine I created. Would you be interested in having this poem published in the next issue?

It only two issues published at the moment, but it’s received a lot of attention and Facebook/Twitter and is doing well on WordPress now. It’s free for anyone to read and the aim is primarily to help promote writers on websites and blogs from all over the internet. https://thewritinggarden.wordpress.com/

The copyright remains with the author and I always include a link back to where the work was originally published and also any other social media links you’d like me to include (please let me know which ones – if you have any).

If you would be interested in allowing me to publish your work please check out the magazine and let me know. But if you’d rather not, don’t hesitate to say no, I really won’t mind.

    • Dear Suzy, Thank you so much for your interest in my poem and your kind words regarding it. I would be delighted for you to include “Breathless”, or any of my work, in The Writing Garden, which I must say looks a most impressive publication. I wish you well with it. Any further info required, do let me know. My best regards to you and thanks again, E.B.

      • That’s great Edwin, I shall be very pleased to add your beautiful poem to the next issue, thanks for allowing me to publish it! ๐Ÿ™‚

The only other info required would be any other links (Twitter/Facebook…) anything at all you would like to include with your credit. But it’s not essential, some just prefer a link to their blog, and that’s fine with me. But if you do have any you’d like to include, you can either post the links to me here or on my contact page on the magazine. Other than that you won’t need to do anything at all!

When the next issue is published in early May, I ‘ll get back to you here with a link. And thanks for the compliments Edwin, very much appreciated!! ๐Ÿ™‚
